St. Johns CARES (formerly JCP CARES) was founded by Kathy Bravo in June of 2007 with only a handful of people in Julington Creek Plantation. Over the years our volunteer and donor base has grown to other neighborhoods and areas of St. Johns County.
Through our partner non-profit organizations serving our target populations of the Elderly, Veterans, Homeless, Abused, Children and Animals, assistance is provided to those in need through donations and time. St. Johns CARES has recognized that a disparity exists among families living in our county. Most people are not aware that state and federal funding is based on per capita income. St. Johns County is one of the wealthiest counties in Florida, due in large part to the per capita income in the northern part of the county. This does not reflect the large percentage of families in other parts of the county living below or near the national poverty level. |
Fulfillment of our mission of “Uniting the Community Through Helping Others in Need” is supported and assisted by many. This includes schools, churches, libraries, local businesses and organizations, individuals in the community and our volunteers.
Since 2007 we have raised over $1.55 million worth of charitable donations while generating more than $5 worth of charitable giving for every $1 spent. Our volunteers have also generously given tens of thousands of community service hours. Our Annual Initiatives ( Pet Food Drive, Backpacks for Graduating Homeless Students Enrolling in Higher Education, Food Drive, Project School Snack Pantry and Giving Tree), special projects in response to current community needs and Independent Neighborhood Drives to help those in need have successfully supported our Mission over the years. Our goals are to raise awareness of the non-profit organizations working with our target populations, provide volunteer and community service opportunities and assistance, help connect those who can help with organizations needing assistance and provide opportunities for all ages to experience the joy of helping others.
